Adolescents: Three Things You Should Know

The following link is to a podcast for people who work with or plan on working with young adolescents.

Before listening to the podcast, jot down your own thoughts about adolescence:

1) What you remember or have recently seen regarding adolescent behaviors;

2) What you remember or have found adolescents respond to with regard to teachers or adults;

3) Any ideas you have about ways to structure a classroom of adolescents.

After listening to link I recommend you consider the following links to learn more about adolescent behaviors:

1) http://turningpts.org/pdf/YALGuide2.pdf This is a wonderful write-up about the social, emotional, physical, intellectual and moral development of adolescents and includes strategies for meeting the needs of adolescents.

2) rdewey@georgiasouthern.edu. This is a listing of website that focus on adolescent develoment "issues" compiled by Dr. Dewey at Georgia Southern. (This will be used pending permission from Dr. Dewey)

Once you have delved more deeply into an area of adolescent development I would like for you to create a podcast discussing something you have learned. We will post these to our webpages and provide one another with feedback. Your choice of an assignment will be to read an adolescent development novel and describe the characteristics of the main characters through the lens of adolescent development and consider how you would address their needs in a regular classroom setting or you may choose an "issue of adolescence", research statistics and services that are available for teachers related to the issue and share your findings with us.

I have attached a podcast rubric. If you need help with creating rubrics go to
